Should Get Out More

I just bought a new Digidesign Profile console and I'm working on setting up my generic FOH and MON templates for one offs and festivals. I'm curious about what plug-ins people like and use most often. I bought an additional processor card and the Pro plug-in package. I'm not opposed to buying other plug-ins if they are useful. What do you like to use?

These are some of my favorite plug ins- (I feel like Julie Andrews Smile

now that's an obscure reference)

Cranesong Phoenix (for the money it is the best plug in you can add)
Pultec EQ1P (I use it on electric guitar and keyboards)
Smack (kick and bass mostly)

My favorite for the last several months is still the Serato Rane Series Dynamics. The dynamic EQ rocks. It's great for deessing, reducing cymbal bleed on open mics, dealing with proximity effect with singers who dance around the mic, etc, etc.

Beyond that:

Cranesong Phoenix is an addiction
Smack or Impact on drums
Purple MC77 on bass, vocals, drums...
Revibe
Eventide Harmonizer
McDSP Channel G on vocals
Massey Plugins Tapehead (It's less than $100!!)
Fairchild on vocals

A buddy of mine uses it in lieu of the Phoenix. I like it on a B3.

Here Often

Copy the installers to a USB key, then boot to the desktop (hold Ctrl while pressing shutdown), then run the installers from there. I've been running the demos of the plugins with no ill effects. I dig Tapehead on kick and snare, and the THC on bass guitar.

P.S. It's a little weird seeing a Windows XP desktop on the D-Show!

Hi John,

Jordan summed it up nicely. More detailed step by step instructions for manually installing plug-ins are located here: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100& amp;itemid=20438

The instructions describe using a CD-ROM, but you can follow the same steps to install from a USB key. The reason for first copying the installer file to the console drive is so you can re-install it at a later date (if needed), even if you don't have the original installer on USB.

Funny you say that, Scott. I'm using a D-Show Profile on the current "Sound of Music" tour in China.
