.....chafing.
Just thought I would share a recent discovery with y'all Working in the mid summer heat here in San Diego has always been challenging (and yes, I know it gets a lot worse in some other places) in all the normal heat-related ways. For me personally, one of the stupid little things I hated about those long days in the sun was the chafing that could happen because your sweat keeps all your clothes wet. We jokingly call it "monkey butt", "gig butt", and probably a hundred other things (go ahead and contribute your name for it if you must), but the truth of the matter is that it can be pretty painful to deal with over the course of a long day or two.
So, I might be the last one to the party here, but just in case there are a few others that sometimes have to deal with this, here is the secret......UNDER ARMOR HEAT GEAR. Yep, I've field tested it for the last month and give it my highest rating! Get the undershorts marked "heat gear" that wick away the moisture. They should be available at your local sporting goods store.
At the end of that long hot day, you'll still be walking normally....instead of that wierd "glowing bright red nut sack damaged cowboy/penguin waddle" that tells everyone you're packing raw meat.
Or maybe it's just me. If so, I'm really embarrassed!
If you have other solutions, please contribute them. But I promise, this one actually works quite well.
Mitch
P.S. Don't tell the lighting guys!

Some of the guys in the military like it due to its sweat-handling attributes...the stuff ain't cheap though.

Thanks for the tip. I will try it asap. Being a 6'4 270lb man that sweats like a running faucet I could use it. I have to keep several changes of clothes for those hot summer gigs and I don't know about the rest of you, but ever since I had a bad experience with a cream product from gold bond or the like, you aint getting anything near me down there. Think Icy Hot reaction on your balls.

There are certainly other things that can work to reduce the effects of wearing wet clothes all day (powders, creams, etc.), but they all treat the symptoms, not the cause - which is moisture. Wearing a different type of clothing is a very easy thing to deal with. Honestly, if you haven't tried this type of clothing that "wicks moisture away", you really should. True, it's not as cheap as cotton, but in humid environments, cotton stays wet all day long.....and that's when the problems start.

Jon,
Yeppers. The key to no "ass rot" is to be as "clean and fresh" as possible. Years ago, my doc clued me into the fact that most "crotch rot episodes" are due to minute quantities of fecal matter from an imperfect "paperwork session" being transported by sweat to the "danglin' bits". Baby wipes are specifically designed to disinfect the offending area and easy to carry too!! I've carried a box ever since. If the "rot" is athlete fungus based nothing will do much unless the the fungus is treated at the source - your feet.
