Hey,
Has anyone had a chance to see, hear, touch, feel, dismantle, or play with these boxes yet? I'm somewhat interested in them, just wanted to see what other think.
Some of the questions I have are:
How do they actually sound? - I know EAW thinks they're great
How do the uppers array?
Is there enough bottom end with only twin 12's in the bin?
Are they easy to use, handle, setup?
Would they make a decent frontline for a smaller (800-1500ppl) corporate rig?
And in general, do you like them?

I had a demo of them at Plasa last year but haven't used them. The system is very well balanced and I felt it to be the best "Tops + Subs" system I've seen and I'd have no hesitation in using them, even over some of the high profile choices like Nexo PS15s and L'Acoustics 115XTs. There is certainly no lack of bottom end the system has plenty to spare. I'd certainly want a demo to be sure before buying but I'd put them on the short list.

I had a chance to demo the EAW NT26 recently. The cabinets are very cool-looking, and easy to use. The NT's get loud, and they have excellent imaging. Overall the NT's are extermely transparent and have a very clean sound to them with one exception: there is a very noticible, forward "cchht" distortion sound in the mid-highs, which does not go away with gain changes. It was bad enough that I walked away from the purchase. Funny thing is that the salesperson didn't even seem to notice the sound, even though I and the other customer that the demo both couldn't stand to be in front of the speakers after about 10 minutes.
I've been promised another demo in the near future. Perhaps there was something wrong with the pair I listened to? I'd love that to be true as a great-sounding 65lb self-powered 15" monitor is a dream come true. I'm very interested in what others have to say about this.Know:Audio

I bought a pair of NT29's about 6 weeks ago. The best way I can describe the sound is: INCREDIBLE !! It's not marketing hype when EAW professes how flat these speakers are.
When I first got them, I set them up in my den & Smaarted them just to see how close the frequency & phase response was to the published spec's. Granted- I wasn't outside ( it was time-windowed though) & I was using the ECM 8000 for measurement . I expected it to be off a little because of the cheap mic- but believe it or not the frequency & phase were identical to the published spec's. I had heard that the B****nger 8000's were not to be trusted especially on phase response. I have 2 of those mic's both purchased 2-3 months apart from different stores, & both were identical. Sorry, not trying to turn this into a cheap mic review I just thought it was worth stating.
Just to look at these cabinets they wreak quality, & believe me, after dropping all that loot & narrowly escaping a divorce - I sat there & stared at them for a long-ass time before I even turned them on !!
I've done about 3-4 gigs with these so far & have been extremely impressed with them. Considering how small these these things are, ( 52 lbs.) it almost defies logic to see them on a pole above 2 big-ass sub woofers a side. The volume these things put out it unreal for their size. I had my db meter pegged at 130 about 2-3 feet away & there was still some left!!! They claim 133 db max- but I'd be willing to bet that's being conservative.
The mids, & especially the highs are extremely smooth. You can literally stick your ear in the horn & it still sounds smooth, absolutely zero harshness or honki-ness (is that a word ?) .
The low end is respectable, not mind-blowing but better than you would think. You'd definitely want subs for Rock-n-Roll. I have been running Mackie 1801's with them, for now anyway- ( I know, I know quite a contrast) soon to be upgraded to SB1000's or LA400's (demo's pending). Even using the 1801's with them I have had nothing but compliments on the sound.
Another thing worth noting: the built-in limiters in these boxes are absolutely transparent, I have pushed these to what I believed to be at, or near their limit, according to the frequent flashing limit light on the back of the speaker, but damn if I've heard them audibly limiting.
The feedback threshold is awesome. With no eq, I have literally stuck microphones into the grill without a hint of feedback.
These would make superb monitors. If I had the loot to get 4 more of these for Mons, I wouldn't hesitate to jerk the graphic eq 's right out of the rack .....
The only complaints I have are: 1)The pole cups are extremely tight. You have to twist the pole to get them out. 2)The power cord could stand to be a little longer. 3)Them bitches are almost 7 grand !!!! Well worth it though..........
btw- I haven't heard the noise you've described, it sounds like you probably heard a lemon, or there was some other issues with the set-up. Mine are completely quiet, even with high gain.
If anyone's interested in hearing these & you're in the Richmond, Va. area, I will be using these on a gig next Saturday
7-8-06.
Interesting to hear how the horn still sounds sweet when your ear is right on it. Nice!
As for the short AC power cable, what do they think these things are going to be used for? Sometimes you'd like to set one up not so near a power outlet as opposed to right up against one. I'd get a handful of these if I were you: Belkin F3A104-20

P.S. Almost 7 grand? That was for the pair, right?

This might be slightly less useful than the short cord supplied as the unit has PowerCon input, not IEC.
I'd be more inclined to recommend getting some good cable, and a male edison then take the PowerCon end off the existing cord and make one to whatever length you desire.

Heh heh. My bad... Of course it would be better to make your own custom length with quality AC cable and heavy duty connectors.

Hey Bink,
I'd be happy if the damn power cable would reach the ground , the nearest outlet would be a Godsend !!
By the time I get'em up over everyone 's heads, the cable is straight down, taught & close to lifting the quad-box off the ground . I believe it is only 6 feet long.
Unfortunately, or I guess - fortunately, it doesn't have the standard 3 prong 'computer power cable', it has the 'Neutrik Power-con' (I think that's what they're called) connectors.
As for the price- that was for a pair. Troy at "ACS" gave me the best price I could find (Super-cool Guy too). Some places have'em listed for over 4 grand a piece , & that's sale price. I believe the average going rate is around $3,400 to $3,600. By the time you factor in shipping, you're gonna be over 7 grand for a pair at most places.
Definitely give Troy a call at "ACS", if anyone 's interested !!
Hey Leroy, I'd have to agree with Corey's comments earlier in this thread... I've had my NT29's for a few weeks now and although only having gigged 'em a couple of times so far, they are really impressive and have an amazing level of output and quality for their physical size/weight! {I have not noticed any distortion or anything unusual with mine} I'd agree that power cords should have been much longer since they went the PowerCon route and that, oddly, the pole cups are weird.
01V96 with these speakers is pretty much a kick ass self contained PA! No amps, no outboard... now I haven't had a chance to hear the companion subs but would love to...
I think they are 20-30 percent overpriced, though, a mistake EAW made with the old EP series. Four to five grand street price for the pair seems reasonable. They compete well against a pair of VRX and amp/processing, for example [assuming a single box/side solution is appropriate, of course], which can be done for that price point.
PS: Anyone in the greater Boston/Fall River/Providence area interested in hearing the NT's, let me know, they've become my small-medium club or funky load-in type places speaker of choice lately...

I thought that the NT series looked like a great option until I saw the price. I ended up buying a pair of KV2 EX12's which are a 12" & 3" horn that are damn good for the money. They also have a dual 12" sub which I have not heard yet but will probably buy.

hi James,
Could you care to elaborate what speaker did you compare with the NT? The spec look spectacular, love the weight, but they are too over price. And yes I am waitng on GF for the LA460.h_i_e_p@yahoo.com

You either demand the best/coolest equipment and pay for it or... you don't. The NT series is one of a kind and they are thereby justified in charging what the market will bear.-- Bennett Prescott

I don't get it. I bought four nt29s and they barely reached 100db. I tried all four with different sound sources etc etc, and at about 95db I would hit limiting and not much higher and you could actually hear the limited breathing. I used them for a job and ignored the limited because I needed the volume, and half way through the woofer went into protection mode. During the break I ran home and bought my ev sx360s and they were way louder! People were complimenting me on the upgrade! (...the ev is a 450 watt speaker or so, priced at $1100 cmpared to eaws $3500.)
I figured that it couldn't be that all four speakers were damaged, and figured they just don't go loud, so I returned them. And you're saying that yours measure at 125db?!
