is it possible to use the MAOnPC software to control the jands vista software (with s3 console) via either internal patching of some sort or via artnet?
i`m curious and want to try something
There's 168 hours in a week and I try to work all of them

I believe the website auto generates the e-mail. You may want to check your spam catcher.
The 120 is labeled "short packet". To increase the refresh rate, shortening the packet (rather than sending the entire 512 bytes), should give a substantial increase.

I second the plywood base with rubber feet. Cheap and effective.
I don't bother with the countersink and just use a standard nut (the feet keep the bolt head off the floor).
1 piece of plywood, 3/4" 8"x8"
4 rubber feet (with integral nail)
1 large bolt with nut
1 hole

LEDs are a great choice. However, you are not going to get many for the budget you have allotted. Also, you should give some serious consideration to what you are going to use for a console to drive all of this. To keep it cheap and simple, I would look at the Chauvet Obey line. They are a bit tedious to run moving lights, but for the rest, they are fine. Program a few chases and you are off to the races (pun intended).
Considering the size of the area you are trying to light (dance floor), I would probably go with more lights with less punch. You can get a PAR 38 for under $40 with plug, clamp and lamp. They can hold up to 300 watt lamps, but a 125 will probably do fine. Since the primary colors of light are red, green and blue. I would recommend you go with 12 or 16 lights in groups of 4. RGB and a white or light amber. This will allow you to mix any color you want. The hazer is a must. I would go with a hazer before LED lights. Finally, I would give serious consideration to on of the inexpensive "disco" lights. There are a wide variety of them that will run basic chases. You will not be able to control them with DMX, but you can get a relay shoe box that will turn them on and off from the console.

I got into work today and the Technical Director wasn't in, BUT our consultant was. This guy knows detectors inside out, he designs the chemical recipe for smoke (someone has to), also in his spare time, he works in a theater. As far as credentials go, that's as good as it gets.
The news isn't what I expected. Haze and effect smoke WILL set off a detector, especially the more commercial optical types. It seems that they work on deflected light, so it doesn't matter what particles deflect it.
Its so bad that his theater installed a kill switch for the detectors (which is ok if there are people in the building).
So in short, categorically, Bugger!
