I am trying to decide on the best QSC PLX series amp/amps for my mains needs and need some help.
I am running 4 JBL SR4735X 3 way tops in full range mode (no bi-amp etc.). Specs are as follows: each cab is 8 ohms and 600 watts RMS / 1200 watts music program. This is for DJ use ONLY, and program material will be Techno and House music only. Sub amps are already taken care of and 6 custom horn loaded subs will be run under the JBL 3 ways. The system will be set up for underground “Rave” style parties mainly and no power distro or ability to “tap in” to the main panel will be available.
I am trying to decide between:
1. Running two separate PLX 2502 amps bridged, one per pair of JBL mains, sending each cab 1250 watts
Or
2. Running one PLX 3602 in stereo mode running a pair of JBL mains per amp channel sending 625 watts to each cab.
I have two main concerns:
1. Amp wattage/headroom etc.- The source material is House and Techno DJ music which is highly compressed AND dj’s have a bad tendency to clip the dj mixer, so I am concerned about the “crest” factor. I am not sure whether I should use the regular 2 x RMS rule of thumb and send 1200 watts to each cab, or stick closer to the RMS rating and choose something that will send no more then 600 watts per cab.
2. Power draw- The system will be set up at underground “Rave” style parties with no power distro or ability to “tap in” to the main panel. I mandate that I MUST have a minimum of 2 but preferably 3 or more separate 20 amp circuits available (with NOTHING but my sound on the circuit). Only ONE 20 amp circuit will be available soley for use on the mains. I know a single PLX 3602 will be fine for my needs but not sure if 2 PLX 2502’s bridged in to 4 ohms will be able to run from one 20 amp circuit.
So these are my main concerns and agin I am looking between 1 PLX 3602 or 2 PLX 2502’s. What would be the better choice for my situation?
