I'm in the process of researching replacement amplifiers for the main speakers in a lecture theatre in the university where I work. It's a bi-amplified system using three JBL 6260s (the ones I'm replacing), two in bridge mono for the low end, one in stereo for the high. So far I've been looking at similar 2-channel units (Crown, Crest, QSC) to swap out, but I'm wondering, would it make more sense to find mono amps for the low side? Is it important that the high and low amps be the same models? I read on a particular manufacturers site that bridge mono mode was not recommended. The 6260s are rated 600W at 8ohms bridged.
Thanks. Any specific recommendations would be more than welcome too.

What are they powering? Knowing information like the load being powered is pretty important.

As Tim asked, why are you replacing the existing amps? Are you looking for direct replacements or trying to get some change or improvement? The amps do not have to be the same model, although there can be some advantages in some situations most of those probably do not apply to your situation. If you are simply looking for an equivalent, I would personally consider a single stereo amp to support the two low frequency channels, the power is not that much that there aren't numerous options and it would likely save some money versus two bridge mono amps.

Not recommended in reference to what? Was this an amplifier manufacturer's web site or your speaker manufacturer's web site or in reference to some totally different product or application?
