A friend of mine has a pair of TMS4s that need replacement 18" drivers. Does anyone know what will fit and do the job well? The original Fane made units are no longer made and go for ridiculous money. The driver needs to be able to fit in the chamber.
Thanks in advance,
Simon

Simon,
On Turbosounds website there is in the downloads section an Excel file that lists all the components for all turbo products past and present, Im pretty sure that they never used Fane drivers in the TMS4s far more likely to have been PD drivers, anyhow give turbo a call and they'll be able to sort you out with a recone kit or what driver to use as a direct replacement.

+1 for recones or for finding replacements. I used to run these boxes, and they were decently finicky about driver selection. Also, I recall the octagonal frame of the PD being a factor in terms of fitting physically into the box (I'm not sure a round frame 18 would go in.) I certainly know that's the case with our 21" subs.
IIRC, mine had the LS-1804 drivers in it, which were the later PD model. Being in the UK, you should probably have an easier time finding them than here across the pond.

Simon,
Any pro audio gear pressed into service long enough will hit a point that replacement parts become rare to non-existent and hence expensive. You're there with the TMS series boxes. At least you can still get replacement Precision Device 18"s if you're willing to pay the money. The bad news is if you have Fane 18"s, rather than the later Precision Devices' 18"s, the box is probably loaded with the CD102 (Beyma) hf driver. This driver was replaced with the CD103 (EV DH3), a screw on horn/driver adapter plate and a different passive crossover about the same time they switched to PD devices for the lows and mids. Aside from the upgraded CD103 driver/diaphram, NONE of the other parts are available any longer. So, if you blow a CD102 there are no replacement parts or upgrade path available. You might want to be looking for some nice used Floods. Good luck!

Steve has a good point. We started building these units around 25 years ago. When we discontinue untis we continue to stock spares, and if the supplier can no longer supply we try to ensure we order a large last batch. One issue highlighted here is that Fane no longer exist but were taken over by PDL,however its not always possible or in the interest (ie uneconomic) of the current company to contine manufacture. Sometimes we can't always help out directly but there is usually a way round such issues but it usually comes down to price and whether that work round is economic to the owner.
That said if you can confirm which particular driver your cabinets have I will do a personal search to see if we have any re-cones or drivers that might be compatible with you cabs. So PM me with the details and I'll see what I can do. But I can't make any promises.
Hope that helps

Do you have a pictures of the driver? And of the inside of the box where the 18 goes?
If a round basket driver can fit inside, then you have a good list of drivers today that will outperform the old ones.
