Good Luck 'Inexpensive' and 'floor stand for 42" LCD' rarely get used in the same sentence.
Even though we're a dealer for all of the major vendors I often go here first to get an overview of all the choices.

Don is correct that it is really hard to get a cost effective flat panel stand.
That said, we build our own all the time out of 1 1/2" sch 40 metal pipe.
Build an "up, over and down with legs" Frame out of pipe, bolt it to an oversized 3/4" Plywood baseplate, get an omnimount U3-Fixed put it on with some U Bolts, paint the whole thing black and kiss it goodbye.
We sometimes put high quality casters on the base plates if we need to move them around easily, but if we do that we put 75~125 pounds of weight on the base plates to make them sturdier.
We have done similar things with unistrut and even have mounts with full wrap around clamps spaced for 20.5" box truss.
If you need something that is premade, the best look/feature/cost ratio large display stand I can think of is an Ergotron LX Cart http://www.ergodirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=14415
But, I would make one if a simple black stand is all you need.
