How about working an event where the band I am mixing is sharing the gig with a DJ who is slated to play on our breaks, and also play the bride and grooms (first dance) from a CD. (Think BIG D.C. Society Wedding with 500 or so guests)
Now the D.J. who is supposed to run through my FOH system, pulls up with all of 10 minutes to spare before the doors open...spends 2 more minutes putting gel in his hair before departing from his huge SUV with a cart load of gear that looks like it came from some Musicians Trend Catalog package deal about 10 years ago.
He pushes his gear right up the sidewalk where I am standing talking on my iPhone....and interrupts me without any concern or apology to inform me that he FORGOT the first dance CD, and needed me to download the song for him cause he knows that my iPhone "can do that stuff".
He made the mistake then of informing the party planner what was going on, and she informed the bride and groom...and the panic began. Of course I was already downloading the tune and would not have ratted him out, but he was too stupid to know any better! I let him sweat it out for a few more minutes, and then let him off the hook.
Sorry for the Long Post....but that was one of my favorite Dee Jay Moments....I do however have the highest respect for real Club style D.J.'s...that shit is hard to do!
