There seemed to be quite a bit of interest in having a Chicago Area SMAART class in the Marketplace thread. I'd like to get this organized and make it happen.
All of you that have expressed interest and those that would be willing to travel to Chicago for a 2 day seminar please PM me with your email and I will contact you to exchange information and compile a class roster. We will need a minimum of 15 participants to make this work.
For proper planning we should probably look at dates starting mid March into April.----

I currently have 12 names on the list as potentials. I would like to have 20 before we start making solid plans and booking travel, space, etc. This at least allows for those few that will have something come up and not be able to come.
Given the feedback from a couple of people regarding dates, it currently looks like we will have a window from April 1st to April 18th to have the training. I am thinking a Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday would work best considering the industry. This should get better rates for overnight stays and meeting space as well.
Please feel free to post dates that work or don't work so that we have the best chance of accommodating as many as possible.----

Possible locations:
Holiday Inn NorthShore
5300 Touhy Ave
Skokie, IL
Irish American Heritage Center
4626 N Knox Ave
Chicago, IL
I have 24 names on the list right now. We will have to cap this class at 25. If there is anyone still interested above that I will start a wait/cancellation list.
Things you will need to bring:
Computer
Audio Interface
1/4"TRS to dual 1/4"TS insert cable(or dual XLR depending on your interface) or 1/4"TRS to 1/8"TRS (which you can plug into your line input jack)
Signal will be distributed via a headphone distribution amp utilizing 2 discrete unbalanced audio signals.
With the number of potential participants we should be able to keep the tuition down to $200 per person, but that is not confirmed yet.
It will be a loose format covering the basics of the software on Day1 and advanced applications on Day2.
More details to come as things get firmed up...
If you have anything to add or any corrections Doug please let me know. ----

We have the cables. Basically, we'll use a pair of mixer outputs to drive the headphone distribution boxes, and hand everyone a 1/8" input. We'll probably need a variety of turnarounds or other cables to really accomplish this. The headphone distro setup was first used (way) back when everyone had stereo line level inputs on their notebook computers.
Since that has gone the way of the dinosaur, we'll need to rethink how we're getting it into everyone's USB boxes, which obviously are all configured differently.
Anyone coming to class can take care of themselves by bringing a 1/4" stereo male to "whatever you need to get into your USB audio device cable".
IOW we'll figure it out, but if you can do this it's one less thing we'll have to do on the first day of class.
More info later - I will post this on the audioseminars.com forum here at PSW and on the audioseminars.com web site.
Thanks for making this happen Cory. As I told you and Doug, I was on a long run of gigs, and today finally have a chance to breath. back to work tomorrow!Harry Brill Jr.
