I have an M7CL less than two years old that has several faders that won't calibrate. Some of them bounce around like you describe. One was replaced under warranty, but alas, we are on tour and have little down time to get the others fixed.

The issue which has been in the desks is also been common to LCS systems it seems. They all use the same make faders from ALPS.

I have had the Promix do "The Dance" and it was put into retirement but none of my others (01v96, 02r96, DM200 and PM5D) have had this problem. The DM200 and 5D have each logged 150ish shows a year in various countries. Maybe I'm lucky? I recalibrate faders each time I upgrade firmware and no issues yet....

Keep in mind this is not a calibrating issue. It is a issue of bad fader motors or belts. AS I said before Yammie have replaced all of the faders in our 1D.
This desk sits in a very clean room.

Steve, I am curious why you are requesting PMs.
If there is something you are not happy with, please contact me directly so I can help you.
The faders we use have no known "issues" per se. Do some go bad with use? Sure, sometimes. As one person posted, other manufacturers' devices may have similar issues.
Many times, we found engineers grabbing and trying to move faders DURING a Scene Recall, fighting the motors and potentially stretching the belt. I am not saying you do this, I am merely putting out an example of what can make a good fader go bad.
Best regards,
Mike

Well I wanted PMs so as not to flood the board. just doing some research as the symptom has shown in 2 different systems using the same model fader, ALPS.
Now as far as your example of engineers grabbing faders. You are correct some may do that. We did not as was shown by the fact that a PM1D less than 1 year old had all of its faders replaced. And the tech that came out to service it noticed some sort of belt issue not related to use. You have done exactly what some others at Yamaha and LCS did when first told of the issue. By saying sure some faders go bad and other companies have issues. The problem is that there is a common issue of the alps faders and we are still looking for answers as to why.We have a very large LCS system and also have 7 Yamaha digi desks in use for our show.
LCS is active on the issue and working with us nearly daily with updates on what they find. Yamaha has not done the same BUT they have been very fast to replace all of our units. The service was great.

On our pm1d I have been glad to see that there are zero issues with any component of the control surface.
The console has not been moved since install about 4 years ago and it gets 10-15 hours of use each week (with much more during church production seasons).
I understand why all of you expect the same from from Yamaha desks. I've been very pleased thus far.
I am assuming the faders are the same as on current models?
