Anyone know the specific differences between what is stored in these files in Studio Manager?
.YSM
.YSE
.L9A/.D2X/.PM5/etc "console files"
I've not found it clearly explained anywhere.

From the M7 manny.
When you save a session in the window of an editor, the settings of only that editor will be saved in a file. Session files
saved by M7CL Editor have a filename extension of “.YSE”. Files in which only the M7CL console data is saved (filename
extension “.M7C”) can also be handled, allowing you to use a USB storage device to exchange data with the
M7CL console.
If you save a Session in the Studio Manager window, all selected Editor settings are saved in a file with a file extension
of “.YSM.”
For instance in the Studio manager window if I have a DM1K open and a O1V open and save everything as a YSM file, when I open it up it will also open those 2 desks up as well. If I want to save a DM1K file and back it up I will save it as a YSE to one of our PCs.

OK the console file ie the .m7 etc is what you would put on a USB key SD card etc to drop it right into the desk when not going via PC.
YSE is used from the PC.

| I'm aware of that, thanks.
The PC and Console can both read console files (.PM5, D2X, etc), so why is there a .YSE file?
What is in a .YSE file that's not in a .PM5 or .D2X file?

I will check with our engineers to see if there is any difference other than format...

I have gone through this a bunch of times, and this is what I've found:
YSM - Yamaha Studio Manager: Contains the setup of the studio manager settings: All the consoles selected, MIDI ports, etc.
YSE - Yamaha Studio Environment: Contains the actual layouts of the console(s) selected with all the open windows, positions, selections, etc. You can recall the snapshot of the console (although it appears only the current scene/libraries in some cases) from this file alone.
PM5 - PM5D file - Interesting file, since it can take many forms. It can store a Session, a Scene, or a Library. You can't tell which from just the extension (unlike the DM2000 files which are specific) - These are a royal PITA if you create them on a different version of SM than the firmware on the console supports (don't ask how I know ... grrrr)
Y2x - There are a bunch of these that contain specific DM2000 libraries (for example D2F, D2O, etc.) Each has a specific type of library (input patch, GEQ, etc.)
Haven't done a SM session on a MC7 or LS9, but I assume they have some unique files of their own as well.
