Should Get Out More
FOH is in a bass pit.....vocals are hotter out of the booth seeing as how 2 large tvs are in front of the flown tops...guitar is a cheap ibanez 7 string and was hard to work with.....and the camera is a very cheap sony miniDV. most of the audio on the vid is stage volume. we doubled volume by the end of the show. also band does everything from dance to hard rock so its hard to mix for just one song...

Get the audience to shut up! Oh, you said the crowd wasn't there yet. I'm guessing the ambient sound overwhelmed the the recording even more as the night went on. Perhaps the mic position over-emphasized the crowd noise.
Some sort of limiting function in place on the camera. The recording mix sounds like it hits some kind of hard limiter, starting around 50 seconds in.
What i did like:
The lyrics are something like "I can't see the light." And the camera position has a dark streamer obscuring the singer's eyes and face for most of the song. +1!! That is very, shall we say, Meta.
You can hear the sax! Another +1.
Even better, when the sax player kicks in, he does not start gesticulating wildly for more in his monitor. You are already miles above my experience with this type of band. +2.

In a club that is 21+ you have to do things like crowd control. And believe it or not lights come into play as a factor. If you have to much going on then people won't recognize a bouncer or a officers light in their face. It is also not my lights nor my system. It is owned by the club and i actually do very little of controlling the lights.
I want to come to one of your shows when u tell the audience to shut up!
You free wednesday? I do it all the time. At least the punters that are near FOH, yakking so loud that I can't hear to mix the whispery freak-folk duet. I would hope that we all do that! It's part of "mixing". But only for the folky stuff. For the sort of show your video reflects, it would be pissing into the wind.

That's actually good triage. If they can't tell the difference between the disco light and a flashlight thrust into their face, it's definitely time to call 'em a cab!
