I did a small outdoor festival today for the county Parks and Rec department and despite the kind of rainy weather early on, it was a fantastic day.
After spending the winter upgrading my system, I finally got to fire it up today and the sweat and money were well worth it. Several folks on this site have said that the JBL SR-X cabinets sound great if you throw enough power to them and they are so right! 2 QSC RMX2450s bridged - 1 for each SR4719X, 2 QSC MX1500As bridged - 1 for each mid on the SR4732Xs and a 1500A stereo for the highs on the 4732s. 8200 watts RMS total. I have never heard the solid bottom end from those cabinets that I expected until today!
The other big plus was replacing all of my FOH processing with a DR260. The only issue I had with it was twice it rebooted, I think. Once during setup and at first I thought it might be the amps going thermal until I realized it would have been all 5 at once and they were only down for 20 seconds. It was just out of the blue and corrected itself before I could begin to troubleshoot. It was fine through the first band but a few minutes into the second band, it happened again. This time I happened to notice that the DR GUI on my laptop showed that it had lost comm with the unit. I unplugged the laptop and it didnt happen again. Its a new laptop with Vista so maybe theres a driver issue? I dont know but Ill be hitting the DBX forums tomorrow.
The only other "issue" was that I inadvertantly played a David Bromberg tune with the words "G D" in it during the break. Oooops - Ive listened to that tune a thousand times and never really noticed it but the county rep picked it up right away...
Anyway, the real highlight of the day were the 2 bands. Grant Austin Taylor - http://www.grantaustintaylor.com - a 13 year old Blues guitarist who has opened for Aerosmith among others and Matt Wigler - http://www.mattwigler.com - a 15 year old Jazz and Boogie piano player. These 2 acts were just awesome! If you get the chance to check them out, do it - they are both in the DC area - 1 from Norfolk VA and the other from Baltimore MD.
My wife's GBF must be close to zero... Can I measure that with Smaart?
