Did a gig, it was an outdoor tent/generator country club party, just got home. I use an APC battery backup CS series 500va (300 watt) $110 unit on my foh - an LS9, dmx controller and Sony Discman on wall wart.
I got the system up, played a cd & pulled up the lights. I pulled the plug on the APC to see what would happen - everything continued with no interuption, the APC beeped to let me know the ac was interupted.
There has been interest in whether or not an LS9 or M7 would blip off and do the 18 second reboot (measured my LS9), I now know that my setup is safe, and I think the APC I'm using is just about the minimum performance UPS one should consider. I let it run about 2 or 3 minutes, then plugged it back in.
My concern for a UPS is to get solid power from a wall outlet while running the rest of the system on distro, and keeping the LS9 running in the event of power loss/voltage drop to foh. (If the distro power were to stay up while foh lost power, I would have enough time to run an ac cord up to the distro.) If the whole venue goes down, I could use the LS9 little lite to pour myself a drink.
