I got an email from Jamie Anderson this morning, see inline text following.
Congratulations Jamie....
********************
This is a quick note to pass along my new contact information. (And maybe some news)
As you may be aware, on May 31 of this year, I left my employ with SIA/EAW/Loud Technologies to participate in the start-up of a new company, Rational Acoustics LLC. This new business will focus on the tools and training for professional sound system measurement, analysis and alignment. Rational Acoustics will offer multiple levels of training courses in system alignment, dual-channel FFT-based measurement and of course Smaart software. We shall also be actively involved in developing the tools of this trade and will be creating an e-commerce site for all those random bits of hardware we measurement geeks need in our kits (pre-amps, mics, cables, adapters, calibrators, testers, cool measurement gear, etc.)
Over the next month, we shall be scheduling our first series of classes and bringing our website up on line, so stay tuned.
Please feel free to use my new contact info (I look forward to hearing from you) and to share any and all of this information.

For those of you wishing for more training opportunities, this should be it. If you want to contact Jamie directly, I believe the (new) email is jamie at rationalacoustics dot com.

I guess this might fall into the category of "shameless plug," but I kinda just want to expand on that post. Rational Acoustics will consist of myself (Jamie Anderson), Adam Black (previously, EAW's Smaart programmer), Karen Anderson and starting May 4, Calvert Dayton.
By June, we plan to be offering at least two classes a month on system measurement and alignment, including both basic and advanced level courses, with both Smaart-specific and general theory/practice content. And, while I plan to get back into training full time, it is our intention to offer and support courses from many different instructors.
It will take us a couple weeks to get our website really up and hopping, but if you want to contact us regarding course requests or suggestions (or if you want to hammer me for making this plug), you get me at jamie at rationalacoustics or training at rationalacoustics.
peas,

Hi Jamie-
I enjoyed your Smaart class in Whitinsville in 2004 and look forward to your teaching in a new venture. It looks like you're filling a void that Loud/EAW was unable to address.
Thanks and good luck.

| This begs the question, what is going to happen to Smaart? It's great that you all have found something you want to move on to, and how your former employer works out their own problems is not up to you, but I know reading that sentence just left me with a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Same here, and not just for future development of Smaart but also for support of existing users and versions.

To further elaborate (in for a penny. . . )
As was probably apparent to many users, the last few years were particularly difficult for Smaart operations within Loud Technologies (EAW, Mackie, etc). This was probably most evident in the significant drop off in training classes, the slow release of v6 and following updates, and in the often chaotic communication channels for support and sales.
During that time, many changes were made to streamline and clarify EAW's operational structure, the most pertinent to this discussion being the assimilation of SIA into EAW - notably, I became product manager and Calvert became software manager for the EAW Brand, and support, sales (and branding) and training for Smaart were integrated into the EAW Brand operations. While functionally speaking, SIA has been part of EAW for since 1999, for the first seven of those years, Smaart sales, support and training were operated pretty much as a separate group.
While there were many cool synergies (included that for those of you playing buzzword Bingo) created through this assimilation, what became increasingly clear was that Smaart support and training suffered from the lack of focused personnel. The care and feeding of Smaart, it turns out, requires some full-time, dedicated geeks to make it viable for its users.
Jeffrey Cox (EAW Brand VP and my recent boss), Joe Fustolo (EAW ASG Manager) and I have had many, many, often pained, conversations over the past few years regarding the issue of Smaart support and training, and its associated resources. Both gentlemen (as well as the entire EAW brand group and the Loud executives) are HUGE supporters of Smaart, and have given it high priority. Unfortunately, given the breadth and depth of the EAW product line (both established and under development), the ability to field dedicated resources for Smaart was just not realistic within the constructs of Loud and the EAW Brand Group.
The creation of Rational Acoustics LLC was in many ways a direct result of those discussions. Jeffrey was well aware of, and similarly felt, my frustration with Smaart's training and support suffering from the lack focused personnel. He knew that I wished to get back to being a full-time measurement geek, and supported this move.
So this brings us to the short answer: forming Rational Acoustics was our best answer for revitalizing Smaart training and support. While the people it comprises came together in a rather round-about manner, we think that it is a uniquely qualified group and hope it will be considered as a positive step for Smaart users and Smaart's future. It is, of course, a work in progress, and there are still many questions to be answered, but I think I will leave that for time to tell.
Thanks for your indulgence with this thread.
Best regards,
-j

Wishing you well and looking forward to a training class soon.
I especially think having the e commerce site and doing some research, knowing what works and doesnt will prevent those venturing into the Measurement fields from wasting hard earned money and allowing them your expertise to buy whats proven and works. Again Good Luck.
