I took my amateur radio technician test a week ago Saturday. My call sign just showed up in the FCC database, KE5TOY.
Who else here is a Ham?

Bob,
Back in the day, when I was young and could still concentrate. I used to run 30wpm on HF (with a Vibroplex paddle key)from the mobile while driving.
I'm an RF Engineer by trade, so radio is the last thing I want to mess with at the end of the day now.
My Dad was a really old school ham, so I grew up around radio all my life, a great way to learn about electronics, and the evil vacuum tube. If you want something, you built it. Now a days most guys are lucky to put on a connector, they just walk in and buy what they need.

Bill,
Nothing quite like a bug for fast code. I had an Iambic at one time that I loaned a buddy. He still has it and that was almost 30 years ago. I have a basement full of components of practically any type or size and still build a lot from scratch. 30wpm is very quick, and you probably had the key strapped to your leg all the time. And they talk about cell phone distractions.
The roar of the grease paint, the smell of the crowd.
