O.K. I'm done,
Yesterday I run a final assembly routine in the workshop, checking everything fits, connects, lifts and works as disigned...
I assembled the LAMPost single handed in a few minutes, though in real life I'll have another person with me so it will really be a breeze.
Here goes:
1. Laying the 1m truss section, with attached 'ground pivot'.

2. Attaching the ground legs/beams.

3. Laying the front cross beam in place.

4. Connecting the outriggers.

5. Flipping the 1m truss forward.

6. Connecting the 3m truss section, carrying the top beam, crank and cable.

7. Raising the complete truss and attaching to the outriggers.

8. Connecting the lift frame.

9. Hanging the speakers.

10. Up, secured and ready to fire...

In a week's time i have an outside gig in which I'll be using this system for the first time.
Can't wait

I seem to remember some bashing going on here about BF designs but anyway… here goes.
If I had to choose a slogan for the DR290s I have just completed,
I would probably sum it as Revealing, Exact and wonderfully Loud.
My previous tops were propriety 2*12” + 2” horn + super tweeter, bi-amped.
With the 12”s driven by one side of a PLX3402 and the horn and tweeter driven
from one side of a USA370.
Their main drawbacks were (in order of importance): good sound (the DRs are much better…),
low sensitivity, poor low-mid (overall, but especially) long throw capability and heavy weight.
I used these as tops for my LABhorn subs and they were the limiting factor of my system.
In ‘bigger’ gigs I had practically limitless low output but inadequate mid and high
output not to mention any headroom at these bands.
My decision to build the DRs as my new tops for the LABs was based on reading many discussions,
revues and reports on other options too.
Not being able to actually listen/test any of the optional designs,
I tried to get the most objective picture as to the performance of each by reading also what
was written ‘between the lines’ and in the end I let my gained-by-years intuition decide.
And I wasn’t wrong.
These boxes are outstanding. Listening to them for the first time reminded me of playing the LABs
for the first time and hearing the low content of music clear and defined as never before.
Same experience happened now with the DRs with the mid and high bands.
After few necessary but relatively basic EQ corrections they do sound wonderful.
In the beginning it sounded somewhat different compared to my ‘old’ (or any other) front-loaded cabs,
but after a very short listening time I realized I simply prefer their sound.
Like back in my stereo improvement days, I found myself playing through them ‘highlights’ of my
music collection and appreciating and enjoying their ‘new’ sound.
I find them truly revealing. They play music with great detail, not ‘masking’,
covering or ‘blurring’ the tiniest detail. Certainly an ear opener…
Also, being efficient as they are, I actually tripled my system’s tops SPL potential
while maintaining the same amp power as before (‘good old’ 3402).
Well maybe not really, I may need to get a bigger amp for the highs though…
I know as in other areas of life different people have different tastes.
I do like the taste (of sound…) of these, as also some of my recent audience
who came up to me (in only the few gigs I already used them at) and complimented about the great ‘new’ sound.
