I would like to make one of my steel gobos multiple colors with gels. I was wondering if this is possible or if it will just melt with every attempt. Thanks!

Tom,
I doubt you'll have any success doing that on the gobo "in the gate" except the possibility that it might work for very short periods of time/low levels. Metal gobos themselves distort with the heat they encounter. It could be worth a try if you are willing to risk a cleanup of the gobo and/or fixture. I can't say about the flammability of gel as I've never tried to set one on fire. You can however tape multiple colors of gel together and use them in a gel frame to add a colored effect to the gobo pattern. It's not going to be a sharp transition though, the colors will "fade" from one to the other.

I don't have any experience with this, but I would not recommend putting any sort of gel on the gobo itself, even one's rated for high temperature. I imagine you'd more likley just wind up with a really bad smell, a ruined gel, ruined gobo and possibly a ruined fixture. I suppose if you did research into how hot the fixture actually got inside, where the Gobo goes, compared to how hot the gel can get you could do it. but unless you found that out for sure I would not recommend it.
I would be curious to hear what you decide to do and how it works out.
