Hi all,
I am just wondering what the opinions are of the AT 5000 or 4000 series radio mics. I'm from Australia, and they aren't that popular here. I only know of one person that has used them, and he had problems. He DOES however suspect the dimlings that set them up, as when he spoke to them about freq co-ordination their reply was, "yeah, they're all on different frequencies!"
Anyway, I own some of the AE5400 wired handheld condensors and really like the sound, and am contemplating acquiring some radio versions.
I use heaps of Sennheiser (Evolution, 3000 and 5000) and Shure gear (UHF-R) at my day job, and have been more than happy with the audio quality.
I guess in a nutshell, I'd like to know if AT's RF quality at the top of their range, well... does it cut it?
Cheers,
Steve.
On a side note I started a topic a couple of months back and never got around to saying thanks.
Didn't want to drag the old topic up, but wanted to say I appreciated the advice.
The information was great and I will implement it NEXT time (wasn't allowed to this time, and my heart stopped for 5 mins and 8 secs while the track played...)

I've since managed to convince boss to buy a bunch more stuff!

We use at least channels of 3000 wireless systems at an annual air port gig (out on the runway with all kinds of RF stuff going on) and have had absolutely no problems. Sound quality is great. The transmitters are rock solid and have stood up to all kinds of abuse (dropped, rained on, stepped on, etc.

Likewise, I have now used 20 of the 3000 series regularly now for 3 years, and they have been rock solid. YMMV.

We have 8 4000 series body packs and 2 T4100's. Like everyone has said great mic!
BUT what hasn't been mentioned is that the setting buttons is covered by a screw on shroud so that only the screen is visible, except for a recessed dime sized button on the bottom of the wireless handhelds. This is logically the ON/OFF but also the MUTE button. *Middle of an act and its tapped once, the mic cuts. Not the best design feature. Unless I am missing something that it can be programed out...*
Edit: fixed my mute problem

You can program it mute lock and that will take care of your problem. I have had that happen to me now all my Handhelds are forever mute locked.

Regarding the 2000 series, I think the biggest difference between those and the 3000 is feature set. We've installed several of them in local churches/clubs and they seem to have just as solid of an RF performance as the 3000.
The mic element (Pro41) sounds pretty darn good considering what the system costs. The main limiting factor is the number of available channels...8 in one band. The 3000 has something like 200 channels per each of 2 bands (C and D). The 3000 (and up) systems have the ability to switch the transmitter to "RF-HI" for increased usable distance from the receiver.
The hand-held transmitter for the 2000 is plastic, but seems to hold up ok under normal to slightly heavy use. The 3000 gives you a choice between an the Artist Elite AE4100 dynamic or the Artist Series ATM710 condenser. I personally prefer the AE4100 over a beta58 by a long shot. It seems to have the ability to cut through the mix without being overly abrasive. I think they have a highly natural, uncolored sound. Also very stable in wedges. Haven't had much time on the ATM710, but definitely a clean and crisp sounding element.
One reason we've used them for a lot of churches and public facilities is that they're easy to use. Sometimes the idea of the single button with different functions (on the 3000+) can be a little daunting to people with absolutely no technical background. The 2000 transmitters have a single "ON-OFF" switch...can't get much simpler than that.
All in all, I'd say the 2000 stuff is a really good value if you're looking for something reliable, very good sounding, and easy to use. In my opinion, they're every bit as good (maybe better) than other stuff in the same price bracket.

A correction...
The 2000 series has 10 channels, not 8 as I stated earlier.
