Sorry, just realised that I didn't answer your question, and the answer is ... try it both ways and see what works.
Where are you crossing over to the subs? 120hz was the suggested place but try 80hz instead (the 3x3 has plenty of low end)

Google for Apogee MARS frames and couplers, I've seen them on ebay, splay couplers were made at various angles. Please note that the MARS frame adds about 80lbs to the (already unwieldy) 3x3.

probably, do your 3x3 have aeroquip or nutplate connectors? if nutplate it shouldnt be difficult to make a spacer with the correct angle and attach it to the cabinet. if they are aeroquip be prepared to spend a lot on connectors!!

Null plates? I assume you mean nut plates (circular metal plate with a threaded hole in the middle) but 2 bars as you described should work well

Sure. Two bars per pair of speakers will work fine. You don't need the MARS stuff because these bars aren't being used in a critical application such as hanging the speakers. All you're doing is holding a certain distance between the front grilles; the speakers's weight is on wheels on the stage. Any reasonably sturdy bar stock will suffice. Wood or metal or plastic.
