I finally got to test drive it Saturday night.
Corporate party band, Midas Verona, Mackie SR1530s underneath QSC HPR subs. The band had everything set and on the FOH rack was a Shure Beta 87A. Well, this won't be hard, will it?
A quick A/B of the PR-35 and the 87 revealed low mid mud in the 87. Overall the PR-35 just had more clarity and presence, a full and natural sound that everyone standing around noticed.
For the show the PR-35 was on a male (mostly) baritone voice. It really jumped out of the PA. One of the other guys had an 87C but it was an RF model so it's not really a fair comparison. But the hardwired comparison from FOH with the 87A, that one was a head turner.
I have not yet tried it with a female voice. Can't really say much about the rejection charactics either. It was a mostly quiet stage (IEMs all around).
It's a fine microphone, definitely worth a listen.
Oh yeah, the drummer got the PR-22 for his snare, temporarily replacing an Audix D2. He was on ears also and I'm quite sure the next time I see them he will own a PR-22.
On a final note, one of the QSC single 18 subs will not keep up with a 1530. I was tickling the clip lights on the (aux fed) subs and still had headroom on the tops. Pretty sure 2x HPR subs to a single 1530 would be just right.
there ya go........

Doug,
I was waiting for your reply before posting. Bob Heil sent me a PR-35 and a PR-22 for test purposes and last weekend I was able to put them through their paces.
Being that I like to see how things are made I opened the PR-35 and chuckled to myself when I saw that the element is suspended by what looks like a little mini broadcast type suspension spider. I opened the PR-22 and saw that the suspension is no where close to the PR-20s design.
Enough of the inside look, the real test was the vocals and the 35 just blew away everything I had in the case including anything Audix (OM5, OM7) or Shure (Beta 57, 58). A really full sound pleasant to listen to just as you described above. We had no problems with rejection front, back or sides and no problems with proximity effect. The sound was pure, like being in a very good recording studio.
The PR-22 was also a joy to use and the noise picked up by the PR-20s on the same stage the week before was gone. In a side by side comparison the difference was night and day.
My question to you might be what else have you heard that compares to the PR-35 for vocals. KMS105, KSM9, MD431-II? You might be hard pressed to find a better sounding mike, but you see more than I so what's your take on this beauty?

I was hoping he would be sending me some also..but I guess I should contact him again..my last email was answered by what appeared to be a form letter...unless he is a crazy fast typist. Is there any word on a retro fix for the PR 20?

John,
He's going to make an announcement concerning the retrofit after the PR-22 line is up and running full throttle, maybe another 60 days. The mikes he sent me were from Joan Biaz and had to be sent right back after the testing, and I know his demo stock is all tied up so be patient. My next step is to replace three of my 20s with PR-35s for vocal work only. Amazing mike, worth much more than they cost.

Sorry Gary, but as a sound company owner, all I want to know is if the 35 fits into a standard Shure A25D? About $2.50 each, indestructable, and they fit just about everything. The Audix clips and just about everything else come out of the box and fly straight into the trash can, and I get the feeling the Heil clip will be taking the same journey.

The Pr-20 does fit in the standard Shure mount, since the PR-35 is larger it should fit, just a little farther towards the plug end.

Ditto..can't put Audix D series, EV 408/409's and small condensors in those clips.
